We often see couples going back and forth on whether or not to throw an engagement party. While there are a number of traditional events leading up to your wedding, engagement parties are still considered optional, with some couples opting to forego the added planning and expense.
We at An Affair of Excellence are big fans of engagement parties, though!
First and foremost, we love engagement parties because they give your loved ones a formal chance to celebrate the fact that you’re getting married. Since the party is typically held no more than three months after the engagement, the excitement is still fresh. Chances are your wedding won’t be for quite some time so it’s nice to take a moment early on and celebrate just how happy you are.
This could also be the first time both sides of the future family meet. An engagement party allows people from different areas of you and your fiancé’s life to get to know one another. By the time the wedding comes around, introductions won’t be necessary and everyone can party like old friends.
Engagement parties aren’t just for fun, though. They’re also practical. They force you to check off some major items from your wedding planning checklist. Couples typically don’t invite people to their engagement party that won’t be invited to their wedding, so you can use the party guest list as a first draft of your wedding guest list. You can also test out invitations by sending out a simpler, less formal version of the invitations you’d like to use for your wedding.
If you’re planning a destination wedding or you’re getting married somewhere that not all your guests can easily get to, an engagement party can serve as a pre-wedding. Since not all guests will be able to make it to the real thing, they can use this as a way to celebrate you and your fiancé.
At An Affair of Excellence, we think that engagement parties are the perfect way to kick off the wedding excitement. It allows you to celebrate the love you share with your fiancé, connect with friends and family, and jump headfirst into the wedding planning process.
